Harrisburg tells dozens to evacuate after sinkhole

HARRISBURG (AP) – City officials in Harrisburg are recommending that dozens of families leave their homes because a sinkhole has caused problems with utility service in the area.
The Department of Public Works on Tuesday asked 29 families to leave their homes. The sinkhole first developed Monday and partially swallowed a six-ton city trash truck.
City spokesman Robert Philbin tells WHTM-TV the sinkhole has led to a prolonged loss of water, gas and sewer service in the neighborhood. The Red Cross has set up a temporary shelter nearby.
Officials say the sinkhole collapsed Monday due to an eroded sewer pipe.
