Betsie Trew, president and chief executive officer of Washington County Community Foundation, was elected to serve as a member of the Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania Board of Directors. Her three-year term began Jan. 1.

“I am honored and excited to represent the Washington County community as a part of this regional association of grantmakers, which is doing great work to promote and enhance private philanthropy,” Trew said. “The philanthropic values and objectives of GWP are aligned with the philanthropic values and objectives of the Washington County Community Foundation. Both organizations are based on the premise that private philanthropy can improve the quality of life in a community, and both work to promote the public understanding of private philanthropy.”

Grantmakers of Western Pennsylvania is a professional membership association formed in 1985 by leaders who wanted to create a place where grantmakers could learn and work together to increase their community impact. The mission of GWP is to promote excellence in philanthropy by supporting an effective, growing philanthropic community that strengthens the region. GWP contributes to positive community change by enhancing the impact of its members’ philanthropy and by increasing understanding of the scale, nature and value of philanthropy in Western Pennsylvania.
