NEW SALEM (AP) – A natural gas utility says it’s bringing customers back online after damage to a pipeline left about 400 people in the cold in rural Western Pennsylvania.

Columbia Gas says Tuesday it’s completed repairs and the majority of door-to-door safety checks and relights in New Salem and Fairbank, Fayette County.

The utility says a third-party contractor working on a private project in Uniontown damaged the pipeline Monday, interrupting service to about 140 customers in Fairbank and 236 customers in New Salem.

A warming center was set up at a social hall in Republic.

New Salem and Fairbank are about 45 miles south of Pittsburgh.
