PITTSBURGH (AP) – Pittsburgh police are continuing to search Wednesday for a gunman suspected of firing shots in the direction of two officers on routine patrol in one of the city’s most dangerous neighborhoods.

The officers were on patrol Tuesday when they say they saw muzzle flashes from the area of a row house and bullets whizzing by their heads around 1 p.m. Tuesday in the city’s Homewood section.

Neither officer was wounded. Police say at least one nearby building was hit. The officers’ patrol vehicle wasn’t struck.

Police warned people to stay inside and locked down three schools.

A city police SWAT team cleared the area about 3:30 p.m. That included four row homes where police thought the shots might have originated. No one was arrested and the shooter was not found.
