A water tanker crashed on Interstate 79 near the Waynesburg exit shortly before 3 a.m. Tuesday, causing traffic restrictions on the highway.

Emergency responders were called to the crash in the interstate’s southbound lanes just north of the exit ramp, Waynesburg-Franklin Volunteer Fire Chief Jeff Marshall said. Traffic was restricted to one lane while crews removed the wreckage from the scene.

State police said the tanker truck crashed into a guardrail. The driver, who was not identified, did not suffer serious injuries, police said.
