HERMITAGE (AP) – A deputy coroner said an elderly Western Pennsylvania couple that died in a murder-suicide had no “out of the ordinary” illnesses and didn’t leave a note explaining the deaths.

Mercer County Deputy Coroner John Libonati said 89-year-old George Gresko was pronounced dead at the couple’s home in Hermitage on Sunday morning. Eighty-five-year-old Marie Gresko, his wife, died a short time later at a nearby hospital of a single gunshot wound.

Hermitage police Chief Brian Blair issued a short statement saying only, “We investigated a suicide this morning at the residence of an elderly couple. No further comment.

The coroner determined George Gresko’s wound was self-inflicted and that he shot his wife.

Hermitage is about 65 miles northwest of Pittsburgh, near the Ohio border.
