Casino, hotel make closer connection

MEADOW LANDS – The Meadows Casino and the new Hyatt Place hotel just in front of it drew closer Wednesday, as workmen began installing an enclosed pedestrian walkway connecting the two buildings.
The overhead passage, which connects the hotel’s fourth floor to the casino’s second floor, will enable the Hyatt’s guests to walk from their rooms into a weatherproof walkway that will carry them to a climate-controlled passageway into the casino.
“It’s a seamless, easy walk over to the casino,” said Meadows General Manager Sean Sullivan of the project, which was completed Thursday.
The walkway was always part of the plan for the 155-room hotel, which broke ground in December 2013 and will open April 30.
The county’s latest lodging accommodations, being built by Pittsburgh-based FFC Capital Corp., also are expected to be the most upscale yet, according to Sullivan and William Paulos, co-founder and principal of Las Vegas-based Cannery Casino Resorts, which owns The Meadows Racetrack & Casino.
In addition to providing Hyatt guests with the most direct connection possible to the casino, they noted that the hotel will include a full-service restaurant, ornate bar, bakery/cafe, 24-hour fitness center, indoor pool and an outdoor patio featuring three weatherproof TVs and gas-flame heating. All of the guest rooms were built with extra soundproofing.
“It’s certainly the queen of the street,” Paulos said, referring to its standing among the proliferation of primarily limited-service hotels that have come to the Racetrack Road area over the past several years.
Paulos and Sullivan view The Meadows as a 180-acre campus dedicated to hospitality, gaming and entertainment.
With the hotel nearing its opening, Sullivan said they are looking forward to the Street at The Meadows project being developed by Southpointe-based Horizon Properties. The mixed-use development, which is rising on 14.5 acres of land bordering Racetrack Road, will have 90 one- and two-bedroom apartments, several casual dining restaurants and 34,000 square feet of retail space.
