MVH’s 27th annual Gala to be thrilling ‘Night at the Museum’

MONONGAHELA – Monongahela Valley Hospital and its parent company, Mon-Vale Health Resources Inc., will celebrate its 27th annual Gala May 16 in the Allegheny Grand Ballroom at the Westin Convention Center and Hotel in Pittsburgh.
The theme for the black-tie fundraiser is “A Night at the Museum.”
A reception with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres will begin at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and the program at 7. Entertainment will be provided by Cityscape, a variety dance band. There also will be visiting themed exhibits. Cost $175 per person, and tables of 10 are available.
In addition, Dimensions in Performance Awards will be presented to those who show outstanding dedication to MVH, the health care system and the community. The awards honor the multidimensional talents of special friends, benefactors and members of the heath care community who have distinguished themselves in philanthropy, medicine, volunteerism and civic well-being.
The 2015 winners are:
• of Howard Hanna – Rose Award for Dimensions in Philanthropy. Simon helped establish the Free Care Fund at MVH to provide medical care to children regardless of insurance or their families’ ability to pay. Simon hosts the annual Chow Chow Luncheon at Cedarbrook Golf Course in Rostraver that has raised more than $120,000 for the Hospital’s Free Care Fund. This award recognizes members of the community for their benevolence and dedication to the enhancement of quality health care.
• Dr. Paul N. Cervone of Valley Women’s Health – Sickman-Levin Award for Dimensions in Medicine. A well-known obstetrician/gynecologist, Cervone also is a colonel with the 28th Infantry Division of the Pennsylvania National Guard. He has served in Kosovo, Iraq and Afghanistan. He is chairman of the Medical Staff Peer Review Committee, a member of the Medical Staff Executive and Laser Safety committees and co-chairman of the hospital’s Emergency and Disaster Planning Committee. This award honors outstanding physicians who contribute to health care in the mid-Monongahela Valley.
• Lois C. Powala – Gibbons Award for Dimensions in Community Service. A retired vice president at National City Bank, Powala traded an office for volunteer opportunities with MVH, providing community outreach with senior hospital leaders and physicians. She also serves on the hospital’s Patient Safety Committee. This award honors those who are dedicated to the health, social and civic needs of area residents and help to improve the quality of life.
• Sarah L. Wells – Rossomme Award for Dimensions in Volunteer Service. Wells has been an active member of the Auxiliary of Mon-Vale Resources Inc. for 47 years, making her the longest active member serving the organization. She is chairwoman of the Gift and Memorial Fund and works in the hospital’s gift shop. This award recognizes people who give of their time and talents in volunteer service to the health system.
