MARION, Ohio (AP) – A potent batch of heroin or one mixed with other drugs could be responsible for at least 11 overdoses, including two fatalities, within 24 hours in central Ohio.
The Columbus Dispatch reports medics responded to 11 overdoses on Thursday and Friday in Union and Marion counties, including the death of a 19-year-old woman and a 34-year-old man.
Medical officials are linking the deaths to a potentially lethal batch of heroin or one laced with either the painkiller Fentanyl or a synthetic drug.
The spike in overdoses caused Marion’s fire and emergency crews to use all but two doses of its Narcan supply, a drug used to revive overdose victims.
Doctors said some victims have experienced acidic blood, seizures and other symptoms not typical in heroin overdoses.
