Rebellion wins opener at Akron
AKRON, Ohio – Lara Andrews hit a home run and Dallas Escobedo pitched four shutout innings as the Pennsylvania Rebellion defeated the Akron Racers, 7-3, in the opening game of a National Pro Fastpitch doubleheader Sunday afternoon at Firestone Stadium.
The second game was suspended because of rain with the Rebellion leading 3-0 in the bottom of the third inning. The game will be resumed at a later date.
Andrews hit a solo homer in the second inning and added a sacrifice fly in the fifth as the Rebellion scored the first seven runs in the opener. Rookie Cheyenne Cordes was 3-for-4 and scored two runs for the Rebellion, who won two of the three games in the series. Cordes hit one fo the Rebellion’s three doubles.
Escobedo (1-2) allowed five hits and struck out three in four innings. Emily Weiman pitched the final three innings for a save.
In the second game, Alisa Goler and Kristyn Sandberg hit back-to-back home runs in the third inning. Goler’s homer was a two-run shot. Rebellion pitcher Emma Johnson retired the first seven Akron batters before rain caused play to be stopped.
