Waste Management’s Washington hauling site donated 10 boxes and bags filled with cold-weather items for men, women, teens and children at the City Mission during the holidays.

“I just love doing things like this,” said Barbara Elias, operations specialist at Waste Management who spearheaded the drive. “The employees really get behind our drives and impress me all the time. It just feels good to be able to help the local community.”

Along with the clothing donation, Waste Management also provides information to the City Mission about the importance of safety, especially during the winter.

“Unfortunately, we see a lot of homeless people seeking shelter in our garbage and recycling bins,” said Rich Mogan, senior district manager. “Safety is our number one priority, and if our workers do not know they are in there, we could have a serious accident on our hands. The more information we can provide them the better.”

Chartiers-Houston Community Library recently received a $1,000 grant through the Libri Foundation Grant to purchase new children’s books.

The library purchased 60 books, ranging from nonfiction to fiction for toddler through middle school reading levels.

The grant was made possible by a Friends of the Library donation.

Washington Hospital Auxiliary recently presented a check for $1,600 to Catholic Charities.

The money was raised during Breakfast with Santa, held each year for children and grandchildren of Washington Hospital employees.
