Waynesburg Lions names girl, boy of year
WAYNESBURG – Caitlin Brooks and Curtis Patton were recognized as the Waynesburg Lions Club’s boy and girl of the year at Waynesburg Central High School’s May 29 graduation ceremonies. They each received a $1,000 scholarship from the Waynesburg Lions Club.
Brooks, a daughter of Carl and Valerie Brooks of Waynesburg, has a 4.0 grade point average.
She was a member of the National Honor Society, drama club, Alpha club, Spanish club, varsity club, principal’s council, FCA, Youth Alive, Oracle, honor guard, newspaper club and Italian club.
Brooks participated in track, jazz choir, concert choir, show choir and Relay for Life and was assistant editor for the newspaper.
She received highest honors awards for civics, advanced algebra, earth science, English 9, Spanish I, Spanish II, advanced biology, physics, American history and English II. She received high honors in Italian I, honors world cultures and AP prep English.
Brooks received the academic excellence award and was selected to participate in the all-county choir festival, was a three-year letterman and received the Joseph Ayersman American History Award, She medaled in the WPIAL track championship and was most valuable player for track in her sophomore year.
Brooks served as youth group president at the First Baptist Church of Waynesburg and is a member of the church choir and the 220 Youth Group. She volunteers at the church and at the Humane Society and serves as a math tutor.
Brooks plans to attend Waynesburg University and major in mathematics.
Patton, a son of Tom Patton of Spraggs, has a 4.0 grade point average.
He is a member of 4-H and was a two-time gold clover recipient in 4-H and an outstanding senior member.
Patton participated in the band club, National Honor Society, Future Farmers of America, Spanish Club and ski club. He received various academic awards including the Joe Ayersman History Award.
Patton works in his family’s business, Patton Electric, volunteers with 4-H and is a Civil War re-enactor.
Patton will attend West Virginia University and major in pre-veterinarian medicine. He plans to open his own veterinarian practice in the area.
