NAACP Washington Branch receives national award

The NAACP Washington Branch received the 2015 Thalheimer Award at the NAACP national convention in Philadelphia.

The award was presented to branch President Phyllis Waller on July 15. The Thalheimer Award is the NAACP’s top honor given to branches for outstanding achievements, ackowledging their tireless work and dedicated to end racism and create a just society.

The award recognizes outstanding work in the implementation of the strategic priorities and goals mandated by the national board of directors in the areas of building members, enhancing advocacy, rebuilding legal capacity, criminal justice, civil rights compliance, civic engagement, economic empowerment, education equity, health advocacy and political empowerment.

Delegates representing the branch at the convention, in additon to Waller, were David Gatling, Carla Ivery, Helen Dates, Robert Griffin and youth delegate Cole Griffin.
