James DeSantis, 93, of Canonsburg, formerly of Burgettstown, died Sunday, October 21, 2012, in his home.He was born December 15, 1918, in Summerville, son of the late Matteo and Frances DiCarlo DeSantis.Prior to retirement, Mr. DeSantis was employed by Harmon Creek Coal Co. and was a member of United Mine Workers of America District 5, Local 6754.He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church in Burgettstown.Mr. DeSantis enjoyed watching sports on television and going to the casino and out to dinner, but most especially, he enjoyed attending family gatherings.Surviving are daughter Susan (Bill) Becker of Canonsburg; son James (Nancy) DeSantis of Aurora, Colo.; stepdaughters Carol (Tim) Chopp of New Jersey and Allison (John) Beck of Washington; stepdaughter-in-law Joanie Webb; brother George (Dolores) DeSantis of Burgettstown; sister Mary Comport of Burgettstown; four grandchildren, John (Allison) Welch, Lynn Welch, Jim DeSantis and Karen (Howard) Heffelfinger; nine stepgrandchildren, Matthew (Fran) Chopp, Megan (Walter) Bodie, Jeff Beck, Carmen and Riley Webb and Bill, Dayna, Stacey and Dan Becker; four great-grandchildren, Molly and Nora Welch and Lucy and Belle Heffelfinger; and three stepgreat-grandchildren, Joseph and Jonathon Chopp and Kyle Bodie.Deceased are his first wife, Frances Bokulich DeSantis, who died in 1979; his second wife, Susanna Webb DeSantis, who died in 2003; two sisters, Edith Comport and Ann Spiotta; and four brothers, Louie, Harry, John “Salty” and Tony DeSantis.Friends will be received from 2 to 8 p.m. Thursday in Taucher Funeral Home, 23 Erie Mine Road, Burgettstown, where a blessing service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, October 26, with the Rev.
