Town and Country Garden club member Norma Kline presented her program, “Holiday Centerpieces,” at the club’s Sept. 10 meeting.

Kline created 22 centerpieces for holidays and special occasions. Various containers were utilized, including a homemade basket, fish bowl, wooden wagon made by her 80-year-old father, and a child’s wicker suitcase. Fresh and dried flowers of appropriate colors reflected the colors of the holiday.

A glass Christmas container included adhering candy canes or cinnamon sticks around the outer side and tying a ribbon around them. A sliced orange can serve as a container for a small arrangement as the juice will serve as the liquid for the flowers and the aroma will fill the air.

Members participated in the program as Kline demonstrated and gave step-by-step instructions on creating two large bows using two different methods. Members also created a rose from ribbon for a package decoration.

Kline received a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics degree from West Virginia University and taught 25 years in the Jefferson-Morgan School District. She was recognized by the America Home Economics Association in their recruiting slide program. Among other creations are her “Boo B Bonnets” and “Memory Bears.”
