Community Action Southwest’s adult education program, designed to help residents 17 and older obtain their GED, is enrolling new students.
Those who passed some subjects of the 2002 Series GED exam have until Dec. 31 to have their passing scores count toward the new 2014 Series GED exam.
Community Action’s state-certified teachers will help students access their previous scores and prepare them to pass the remaining subjects of the new test so they can obtain their GED credential.
A full schedule of classes, in session year-round, will meet every Monday, Wednesday and Friday each week at the Greene, Mon Valley and Washington CareerLink sites.
Community Action also offers classes in Carmichaels, Bentleyville and Burgettstown from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesdays and 1 to 7 p.m. Thursdays in Carmichaels and Washington.
During enrollment and orientation, state-certified instructors work with students to determine the appropriate level of classes they will attend in addition to establishing their weekly class schedule.
Students enrolled in the program also are partnered with a trained case manager who will work with them on job development and trade school or college enrollment procedures.
The agency’s adult education program is funded through grants from the state Department of Education and Community and Economic Development and the United Way of Washington County.
