Retain Emery and DiSalle
Judicial retention elections tend not to attract much attention.
There have been no signs or television commercials, at least that we have seen, urging that John DiSalle and Katherine Emery, both Washington County judges, be retained. But voters should do that – by voting yes, each judge would be allowed another 10 years on the bench.
A 20-year veteran of the county’s common pleas court, Emery became president judge this year following the retirement of former president judge Debbie O’Dell Seneca and has handled most of the cases that come through the county court, from criminal to family matters. DiSalle was elected in 2005, is a judge for veterans and drug courts, believes those who peddle drugs need to be dealt with harshly, and that drug use lies at the heart of many of the county’s criminal cases.
It would be a stunner if it turned out otherwise, but both Emery and DiSalle have done good work and deserve to be retained.
