Off-duty trooper arrested by North Strabane police
An off-duty Pennsylvania state trooper was arrested Sunday night by North Strabane Township police after he allegedly assaulted his wife at their Meadowbrook home.
Christopher Joseph Campbell, 33, of 229 Fieldbrook Drive, was arrested on charges of simple assault and harassment.
Police were called to the home at 10:43 p.m. by a neighbor who reported that there were a man and a woman in a physical altercation outside the home.
When police arrived, they talked to the witness, who reported that before calling 911, the man, later identified as Campbell, had picked up his wife, thrown her to the ground and gotten on top of her. The witness told police that the couple was now inside their home at 229 Fieldbrook.
Police went to the home and met Campbell and his wife, Emily Campbell. He admitted that he was involved in a domestic dispute with his wife, but denied hitting her. Campbell did reportedly admit to police that he threw her to the ground outside the house because she was out of control.
Emily Campbell reportedly told police that her husband hit in the face and that it was not the first time. Police noted a large swollen and bruised area on her right cheek.
Campbell joined the state police in June 2008 and had been assigned to Troop B’s Washington station since 2012, said Trooper Adam Reed, state police spokesman in Harrisburg. Reed said Campbell is suspended without pay pending the outcome of court proceedings.
Campbell was arraigned before District Judge Mark Wilson and released on $5,000 unsecured bond. He is scheduled for a Nov. 9 preliminary hearing before District Judge Jay Weller.
