An elderly woman was taken to a local hospital after fire damaged her home in Long Branch on Saturday.

Roscoe fire Chief Larry Pollock said firefighters were called at 310 p.m. to 436 Mt. Tabor Road for a report of a fire in a two-story house.

“We arrived in nine minutes and found a working fire in the attic,” Pollock said. “The firefighters did a wonderful job containing the fire to the attic, although there was water damage on the first and second floors.”

Pollock said the fire was under control in about 35 minutes. He said it appears the fire started with the exhaust system on a wood-burning stove.

“There are no fire hydrants in the area, so we really relied on the support of the departments that helped with the tanker shuttle,” Pollock said. “I am thankful for that. And everyone remained safe.”

Roscoe was assisted by firefighters from Stockdale and California. Firefighters from Bentleyville and Washington Township in Fayette County provided the tanker shuttle.

The woman, who was helped by firefighters out of her house, was not injured but was taken to Monongahela Valley Hospital for treatment of a stress-related condition, Pollock said. Her identity was not available.
