W.Va. attorney general rips Obama on coal
CHARLESTON, W.Va. – West Virginia’s Republican attorney general criticized President Barack Obama for what he called the Democrat’s assault on the state’s struggling coal industry.
Patrick Morrisey scolded the president ahead of his visit to Charleston Wednesday to address West Virginia’s devastating drug overdose death rate – the highest in the nation.
While Morrisey commended Obama for taking on the issue, he took the president to task on his policies regarding coal.
The Obama administration pushed environmental regulations aimed at coal-fired plants to reduce emissions that are contributing to climate change.
In a statement, Morrisey called those policies an “illegal, unprecedented regulatory assault” on the coal industry.
He blamed the administration for closed coal mines and countless job losses.
