PUNXSUTAWNEY (AP) – Police are searching for a man who used a BB pistol while trying to rob an elderly Pennsylvania woman, only to be tricked into dropping it when she shouted, “There’s the police.”

Punxsutawney police Chief James Borza says police were still searching for the suspect who approached the woman shortly after 11 a.m. Friday. That happened in the parking lot outside the Uni-Mart store in the Punxy Plaza.

Borza says the suspect was spooked when the woman yelled and dropped the gun, which she kicked under a vehicle. Panicked, the suspect ran away.

Police say the weapon looked like a real pistol, but fired only BBs.

Police are hoping someone who witnessed the incident may be able to identify the man.

Punxsutawney is about 70 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.
