Men’s basketball: East Stroudsburg shoots down Vulcans
Senior guard Jamal Nwaniemeka scored 20 points and led six East Stroudsburg players in double figures Sunday afternoon as the Warriors defeated visiting California 103-77 in a PSAC men’s basketball game.
East Stroudsburg (5-3, 9-3) won its third consecutive contest as it shot 65 percent from the field. The Warriors made 24 of 31 shots (77 percent) in the first half.
California (3-5, 5-8) received a career-high 23 points off the bench from sophomore guard Cardell Smith, who made 10 of 17 shots from the field and grabbed five rebounds.
East Stroudsburg used an early 17-2 run to build a 13-point lead before Cal reeled off 10 unanswered points. But East Stroudsburg put together runs of 11-0, 12-3 and 9-2 in the first half to forge a commanding 58-27 lead at halftime.
Richard Smith scored 14 points, Khalil Jabbie had 13 points and five assists and Nick Miller scored 12 for Cal, which committed 21 turnovers.
