Two Claysville women were injured in a two-vehicle crash about 1:45 p.m. Friday on Route 40 near Claysville, according to state police in Washington.

Police said Christine Sanney, 58, was stopped at the intersection of Route 40 and South Sunset Beach Road and then attempted to make a left turn, into the path of a car driven by Caitlyn McConn, 19, of West Alexander, who was traveling east.

The front of McConn’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Sanney’ sport-utility vehicle, which overturned.

Sanney and a passenger, Thelma Sanney, 86, were extricated from the crash and taken to an area hospital for treatment, police said.

Information on their conditions was not available.

Police said Thelma Sanney was not wearing a seat belt.

State police were assisted by Claysville and North Franklin fire departments and Washington Ambulance and Chair.

Route 40 was closed to traffic until the accident was cleared.
