Construction is slated to begin in mid-March in the Marian Woodlands residential subdivision off Route 201 and Stump Road, after the Rostraver Township commissioners approved Phase I of the subdivision, which includes 40 single-family lots.

Developer Kevin Dickey of Entech LLC said he expects about 20 homes to be constructed this year, with a total of about 131 homes constructed in the completed project. Prices for the homes will begin at $260,000. The $75 million project will generate about $1 million in tax revenue for the township, said Dickey.

Commissioners approved the rezoning of three properties. Powertech Management and Florence Fretz, both properties located off Route 906 at the former Busy Beaver site, were rezoned to I-2 heavy industrial.

The rezoning was approved for light warehousing and manufacturing. Powertech Management will be housing and repairing rail cars. TMS Logistics Solutions was rezoned from agricultural to retail business to accommodate employee parking.

In other news, township resident Carolyne Fryske asked if there was any update concerning the ongoing violation of the noise ordinance from the Interstate Trucking business next to her home.

“Every morning between 4 a.m. and 6 a.m., there are 12 trucks with the backup alarm. It disturbs your rest; it is every day, even holidays and weekends,” she said. Township solicitor Albert Gaudio said the township zoning board upheld the noise ordinance but the company appealed and the decision eventually was overturned.

“We are looking at our options,” he said.

Township resident Scott Pirella requested help from the township concerning drug activity in the Orchard Plan.

“They are selling right out of the house. It is all hours. The neighborhood is such a beautiful neighborhood,” he said. He added police have been called and are doing what they can but more needs to be done.

Commissioner Gary Beck said he would contact the police chief.

“I can assure you he will contact you, and I can assure you he will not turn his back on you,” Beck said.
