Mon Valley YMCA will begin new sessions of group fitness in March and April, with some classes beginning Feb. 29.
The Balanced Body program, for those 14 and older, includes 49 weekly classes for all fitness levels. The program is free to members, and also is offered to nonmembers for a nominal fee. The Balanced Body program includes:
• Low-intensity classes, such as yoga, arthritis and classic, which are all done in or behind a chair for support.
• Moderate-intensity classes, which make up the bulk of the program, include Breathe (yoga and Pilates), step, cycle, basic strength, senior swing, circuit, Buns & Guns and Walk Off the Pounds.
• High-intensity classes, such as basic training, total body training and cardio kick.
Also available are:
• Zumba, both floor and water, which uses Latin and world rhythms and a mix of low-intensity and high-intensity moves for an interval-style, calorie-burning dance fitness party. The class is offered at a reduced rate to members and Balanced Body participants.
• Water exercise classes, which include deep- and shallow-water classes such as Splash, Wet Vest, arthritis, aqua Zumba, splash dance and aqua fit. These classes allow participants to work harder with less impact due to the support and buoyancy of the water.
• SilverSneakers and Silver and Fit.
• Boot Camp for Kids, which is held Wednesdays. Classes for 5- to 8-year-olds are offered at 5:30 p.m., and classes for 9- to 13-year-olds begin at 6:15 p.m. Book Camp is designed to increase fitness levels through traditional exercise, circuits and games. It is free for members, and also is offered to nonmembers for a nominal fee.
