Monday is both Presidents Day and a state holiday, but Secretary of State Pedro A. Cortés said elections personnel will be accepting political candidates’ nomination petitions.

Staff will be available for petition filing at the Keystone Building, Hearing Room 1, 400 North St., Harrisburg.

Candidates who must file with the Department of State may bring their petitions to the hearing room between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. through Friday of this week and Monday and Tuesday of next week.

The signature-gathering and petition-filing period began Jan. 26 for candidates seeking to have their names on the Democratic or Republican ballot in the April 26 primary. All petitions must be filed no later than 5 p.m. Feb. 16.

If candidates subsequently gather more signatures, they can file supplemental petitions also by the Feb. 16 deadline.

On the ballot this year are president of the United States, U.S. senator, Congress, state senator in odd-numbered districts and all state representatives.

A list of candidates who have already filed petitions is available at www.pavoterservices.state.pa.us/ElectionInfo/electioninfo.aspx.
