Poling, Frazier top Charleroi, set up section showdown

Freshman point guard Brooke Poling scored 15 of her team-high 23 points in the second half to propel Frazier to a 59-52 win over Charleroi at home Wednesday night, moving the Commodores one win away from a share of the Section 4-AA championship.

Frazier (9-2, 12-7) can share the section title with Washington if it defeats the Prexies tonight at home. The Commodores made 12 of their 14 free throws in a 35-point second half. Hannah Fell added 10 points for Frazier, which has won eight of its last nine section games.

Kaitlyn Riley scored 17 of her team-high 23 points in the second half for the Cougars (9-3, 15-7), who made seven three-pointers.

Washington 53, Steel Valley 30: Washington allowed just 12 points in the second half and had eight different players score in a 53-30 non-section win over Steel Valley at home.

Tajah Gordon led the Prexies with 13 points and Torri Finley added 12. Wash High (17-4) outscored Steel Valley 30-12 in the second half.

Morgan Farrah had 11 points for the Ironmen (5-14).

Geibel Catholic 38, Mapletown 29: Grace Nowicki and Gillian Yourish combined for 30 points to help Geibel defeat Mapletown, 38-29, in a Section 3-A game.

Nowicki had 17 points and Yourish 13 for the Gators (4-9, 6-13), who scored 18 fourth-quarter points. Kayla Smith had eight points and 13 rebounds for the Maples (2-11, 3-16).

California 64, Bentworth 31: JayCee Conaway and Kass Taylor combined for 27 points to help the California defeat Bentworth, 64-31, in a non-section game.

Conaway had 14 points and Taylor add 13 for the Trojans (14-6), who scored 45 first-half points. Nick Silver and Ray Logan both had seven points for the Bearcats (4-15).

First Love Christian Academy 79, Steubenville 73: Samson George scored a game-high 28 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to propel First Love to a 79-73 win over Steubenville on the road.

George, a 6-8 forward from Nigeria, holds schoalrship offers from several Division I schools, including VCU and Southern California. David Collins added 15 points for the Knights (17-3).
