The Western PA Mushroom Club will host a mushroom walk Sunday morning at Ryerson Station State Park.

Club representatives will guide participants for one to two miles through trails in the park to learn about and collect wild mushrooms, some of which are edible, park Manager Alan Johnson said.

”The purpose of the walk is to educate people on what species of mushrooms they are, whether they’re edible and how to cook them,” he said.

”There’s mushrooms from now until it snows that people can go look for.”

Johnson said people can take what they learn from the walk and apply it to mushrooms on their own properties.

The Mushroom Club has been hosting the walk every year for the past five years, Johnson said. He said the weather will dictate how far the hike goes.

The group will meet at the Ryerson park office at 10:30 a.m. and drive to the starting point of the hike at 11 a.m., Johnson said. Long pants are advised to protect from ticks.
