Suffering due to drilling
I am 73 years old and I am suffering – suffering on a daily basis because of the invasion of Rice Energy gas wells in Washington County, and especially North Bethlehem Township.
I am suffering in that my quiet, peaceful farm life has been disrupted by the destruction around me. Presently, I’m the victim of constant traffic. Huge rigs spew an enormous amount of diesel exhaust. They brake, they rev their engines, they idle on country roads for hours on end. They create air pollution, concerns regarding my well water and they stir up a great deal of dirt. My porch is covered in a layer of grime. My kitchen windows need to be washed regularly. The noise is deafening, especially at night, depriving me of a decent night’s sleep.
I received no information when they began this invasion, and no information regarding its duration or completion. I’m especially vulnerable because traffic for three well pads go right in front of my house. My mailbox was “temporarily” moved 18 months ago. Because of the traffic, getting my mail is now a dangerous undertaking. I must be really careful or leave my mail in the box for another day.
How to escape? Must I leave my home of 47 years to find peace? Do these so-called energy companies have any regard for me or the other citizens of this township? Is everything about money with a total disregard for the community?
I am suffering and they don’t care.
