Two face charges after dog comes after officer
Two people face charges, one for reportedly giving police a false name and the other for allowing her dogs to run loose, after one of the canines reportedly came after a Washington police officer who was trying to get the animals out of a busy intersection.
Ahmad Lediju, 28, of 239 S. College St., will be charged with false identification to police. Heather Musick, 29, also of 239 S. College, will be charged by Animal Control Officer Kym Secreet with failure to confine her animals.
Officer Matthew Karlowsky was on patrol about 8:30 p.m. on East Maiden Street when he saw two dogs, a pit bull and a smaller white one, in the middle of the road at East Maiden Street and South Wade Avenue.
Karlowsky attempted to get the dogs off the road. The pit bull reportedly came at the officer, chasing him around the cruiser before Karlowsky was able to get back into the vehicle. Once he was inside, the dog backed off. Karlowsky sounded the air horn and the dogs ran.
He followed the dogs through a nearby car wash, down Railroad Street and onto a porch at 239 S. College. A man, later identified as Lediju, opened the door and let the dogs inside, police said.
The man told Karlowsky they were his dogs. Karlowsky told him to stay on the porch, but he tried to go back inside.
When the officer asked for his name. Lediju reportedly gave another name and date of birth.
Musick came out and told police Lediju’s correct name. It was also determined she was the owner of the dogs, Secreet said.
The charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
