March table games revenue sets monthly record
March was a record-breaking month for Pennsylvania’s 12 casinos, where table games play generated $77,914,245 in gross revenue – an all-time monthly high.
That mark shattered the previous record of $72,223,959, set in December, by about $5.7 million, according to figures posted Monday by the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board, overseer of the state’s casino industry.
Last month’s revenue, statewide, was 11.7 percent higher than the March 2015 total of $69,770,440.
Eight casinos posted year-over-year gains, including The Meadows Racetrack & Casino in North Strabane Township. The Meadows had the seventh highest increase, 7.86 percent, to $3,131,813 from $2,903,530 in March 2015. It had a daily average of 83 tables in operation last month. Rivers Casino, on Pittsburgh’s North Shore, had an 11.85 percent increase over the year to $6,695,386 from $5,985,999.
Four casinos experienced dropoffs, the largest being Lady Luck Casino Nemacolin, in Fayette County, which fell 30.87 percent over the year (to $383,398 from $554,620).
March table games play resulted in $11,052,726 in tax revenue. There was a daily average of 1,178 tables in operation.
Slot machine revenues for March were reported about two weeks ago, showing a 1.7 percent increase statewide and a 5.4 percent bump at The Meadows over the year.
Total gambling revenue for March rose 4.21 percent at the 12 casinos ($289,167,505 from $277,482,836), and 5.74 percent at The Meadows ($22,949,317 from $21,703,239).
Combined revenue declined marginally at Rivers Casino and Lady Luck from the previous March. Rivers fell 0.72 percent ($30,241,006 from $30,460,711) and Lady Luck dropped 0.37 percent ($3,037,311 from $3,048,461).
