Woman sentenced to prison for robbery
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg woman was sentenced to 3 ½ to 7 years in state prison Wednesday for her involvement in the 2013 robbery of a Rogersville bank.
Jamie Burnfield, 39, was found guilty in March by a Greene County jury of robbing Rogersville Community Bank with her ex-girlfriend, Amanda Black.
Burnfield was charged last year and accused of writing the note Black handed to a cashier demanding cash. Burnfield was found guilty of conspiracy, robbery, terroristic threats, theft, receiving stolen property, simple assault and harassment.
Black, 26, of 224 Washington St., Waynesburg, pleaded guilty last year to robbing the bank and was sentenced to 1 to 7 years in prison. As part of her plea agreement, she agreed to testify against Burnfield at trial. She testified Burnfield drove her silver Pontiac Grand Am to a baseball field in Rogersville and wrote the note before driving to a church in Rogersville. There Burnfield waited in a back parking lot while Black went into the bank March 19, 2013.
Police said Burnfield admitted writing the note Black gave to a bank teller during the robbery. Police also said a silver Pontiac Grand Am was seen by a witness near the bank the day of the robbery.
“I’m remorseful for the letter that I wrote,” Burnfield said, referring to the note used in the robbery.
She and Black will have to pay $3,275 in restitution to the bank.
In addition to the robbery conviction, Burnfield was also sentenced Wednesday by Greene County Judge Lou Dayich for a separate driving under the influence charge, for which she will pay a $2,500 fine and attend five sessions of driving school.
Also sentenced this week by Dayich were David W. Hodgson, of Franklin Township, and Thomas J. Tewell, of Jefferson.
Hodgson was resentenced Tuesday to one to two years in state prison and three years of probation with credit for a year and seven months served in jail. He was resentenced because he failed to complete two years in the State Intermediate Punishment Program, which included inpatient treatment for drug and alcohol to which he was sentenced in 2014.
He pleaded no contest to burglary, criminal trespass, theft, criminal mischief in February 2014, after police arrested him for a 2013 break-in.
According to court documents, Hodgson, 24, of 172 Tollgate Run Road, allegedly broke a kitchen door window to enter a Waynesburg residence and stole money.
Tewell, 53, of 1336 Jefferson Road, was sentenced to five years of County Intermediate Punishment, which will begin with a 120-day stay at the Safe Haven, a rehab center in Washington.
Tewell was charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, and other summary offenses after allegedly assaulting a state police trooper last year.
According to court documents, he was drunk when he crashed his SUV into a parked car on Grogg Alley, Jefferson, last August. Investigators said Tewell kicked the police officer in the neck area as he was being placed into the back of a police cruiser.
As part of his sentence, Tewell will have to undergo a mental health evaluation, attend outpatient counseling and a 12-step program, complete 150 hours of community service, and pay a $1,000 fine.
