A woman and her son escaped injury Tuesday morning when a smoke detector in their Ten Mile house alerted them of a fire.

The house, on Ikes Road, sustained major damage when it caught fire about 3 a.m.

A state police fire marshal is investigating.

Lack of water at the scene made it necessary for firefighters to call for assistance from about a dozen fire companies in Washington and Greene counties for their tanker trucks.

No further information was immediately available.
