Drivers kill, not speed
After reading the May 16 letter to the editor, “Speed Kills,” from Jim Hassett, I must respectfully disagree with him.
First, the speed limit between Washington County and Greene County on I-79 has been 65 mph for as long as I have been a resident of the area. There are a couple areas that are 55 mph and 45 mph, for safety reasons.
Secondly, law enforcement is present. There have been fewer accidents compared to portions of other highways.
Finally, speed is not the killer. It is the driver behind the wheel who doesn’t have eyes on the road and two hands controlling the wheel.
