Police Beat May 18
Stolen quad: Theodore R. Melencheck, 30, of 160 Garden St., Canonsburg, is wanted by township police on charges of receiving stolen property, tampering with evidence and obstruction, court records show. He is accused of hiding an all-terrain vehicle about 12:20 p.m. Feb. 8 at a relative’s house on Front Street after it was stolen from Paul Nelson, court records show. District Judge Mark Wilson issued a warrant for Melencheck’s arrest Monday.
Assault arrest: Charles Dale Poland, 51, of 409 Ash St., Richeyville, was arrested Monday afternoon by Centerville police after he allegedly assaulted his wife, Anita Poland, during an altercation over a television remote control. He allegedly hit her in the head and grabbed her arms. He was arraigned before District Judge Jay Weller on charges of simple assault and harassment. He was released with orders not to have any contact with the alleged victim.
Assault, burglary charges: Dorothy A. Summers, 39, of 414 Washington Ave., Charleroi, is charged by Charleroi Regional police with burglary, trespassing and simple assault, court records show. She is accused of entering 337 Washington Ave. about 11:40 p.m. April 23 and pushing Heather Stein to the floor and punching her in the head and neck. James Smalley, 44, who lives with Summers, is charged with criminal mischief over accusations he earlier struck the door to Stein’s residence with a baseball bat, court records show. District Judge Larry Hopkins issued the charges via summons Monday.
Trespass arrest: Michael Hughes, 52, who has no known address, was arrested last week by Charleroi Regional police on a charge of defiant trespass after he reportedly was found living in the basement at 124 Prospect Ave. Hughes was evicted from the residence, police said. He was arraigned before District Judge Larry Hopkins and placed in Washington County jail on $25,000 bond.
Harassment charge: Breanna Porter, 22, of New Alexandria, was charged with harassment and disorderly conduct stemming from a disturbance Saturday at 1200 Crest Ave. She is accused of trying to fight two women. Charges will be sent by summons from the office of District Judge Larry Hopkins.
Drug case: Lisa Deberardinis, 46, of 1314 Fayette Ave., Donora, is charged by borough police with illegal possession of 10 Alprazolam pills. Police said she was found slurring her speech in the back seat of her vehicle about 7 p.m. Friday in the 700 block of McKean Avenue, court records show. District Judge Mark Wilson issued her the charge in a summons Monday.
Assault on officer alleged: Mecca Vaccaro, 41, of 533 Park Ave., Monongahela, is charged by city police with aggravated assault, resisting arrest, obstruction, tampering with evidence, driving under a DUI-suspended license and disorderly conduct, court records show. Vaccaro is accused of elbowing officer Ryan Lenzi while he struggled to arrest her during a traffic stop about 3:20 p.m. Sunday in the 100 block of Mulberry Street in New Eagle. She was placed in Washington County jail that day on a parole detainer. District Judge Mark Wilson arraigned her in the assault case Tuesday and set her bond at $10,000.
One injured: Joseph Reich III, 38, of Wexford, was injured in a single-vehicle crash about 6 a.m. Monday on West McMurray Road near Woodlawn Drive, North Strabane police said. Police said he was going west when his vehicle crossed the center line and went 180 feet off the road, through a yard and into a retention pond. He was taken to Canonsburg Hospital for treatment. Police said blood also was drawn to determine whether he was intoxicated. Animal control officer Kym Secreet removed a dog that was in the vehicle.
Trespass charge: Theodore Frye, 59, of 605 Lagonda Road, Washington, was charged early Tuesday with criminal trespass after Washington police said they found him sleeping in a van parked behind Try Again Homes, 365 Jefferson Ave. Police said it was the second time in less than a week he was caught sleeping in one of the vans.
House burglarized: The back door was kicked open Monday at the home of Brittany Copechal, 113 Maple Ave., Washington police said. The house was in disarray. A list of items stolen was not immediately available.
Trespass, drunkenness charges: Christopher Martin, 42, of Washington, was charged early Tuesday by Washington police with public drunkenness and criminal trespass after police said he was found stuck in a tree on private property at 275 Meadow Ave.
Assault case: Janice Bozich of 383 Weirich Ave., Canton Township, allegedly was assaulted Monday by Cary Sampson, 50, during a confrontation at his home at 339 Locust Ave., Washington police said. Sampson was gone when police arrived. A charge of simple assault will be sent from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Resisting charge: William R. Lowe, 35, of 372 Cunningham Road, Claysville, was placed in Washington County jail Monday for allegedly resisting arrest. According to Washington police, adult probation officers were attempting to arrest Lowe on a Washington County bench warrant when he fled, going into a home at 1073 Addison St. Lowe was taken into custody without incident. Charges were filed with District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Possession charge: Devon D. Boyd, 24, of 180 May Ave., Washington, will be charged with possession of a controlled substance for allegedly having more than 40 grams of marijuana in his home during a compliance check by adult probation officers May 11. Charges will be sent from the office of District Judge Robert Redlinger.
