Action: Supervisors voted down a motion to purchase new furnishings and equipment for the new police department building, voting instead to first research what could be reclaimed from the old building.

The motion to purchase a new telephone system, computers and furnishings including tables, chairs and desks under a state contract for roughly $65,000 was voted down after Supervisor Dan Piatt questioned if the number of computers being installed was appropriate.

“We have five,” Piatt said. “If we’re not adding personnel, why are we adding computers? Why buy them now only to have to replace them because they’re out of date?”

The motion, based on the recommendations of the architect and police chief, had called for 10 computers. It failed to pass in a 2-2 vote with supervisors Tom Moore and Jack Keisling in favor and Piatt and Ed Mazur opposed. Supervisor Robert Koman was not present.

Supervisors will vote on an updated motion at the next meeting.

The board also voted to install Plexiglas-encased corkboard cases at all four of the community parks in the township at a cost of $2,472.

Next meeting: 6:30 p.m. March 12 at the municipal building
