Proceed with caution

Is the Republican Party afraid of Donald Trump, or the fact that he might win the presidency?

In 1860, the Republican Party also nominated a divisive candidate. His name was Abraham Lincoln. His nomination was condemned by many, and the nation was divided. His election that year had people fleeing the country, states seceding and the country in peril. The United States saw four years of war, death and destruction. It took many years to heal the wounds.

Slavery was the issue 150 years ago. Today, it is illegal immigration.

I am not comparing Trump to Lincoln, nor am I advocating that people should vote for Hillary Clinton. I am advocating, though, that people should learn from the past and proceed into the future with caution.
