A fire Tuesday night damaged a garage in a townhouse complex on Overlook Court in North Strabane Township.

Fire Chief Mark Grimm said it appears the fire started in an electrical cord that ran from an outlet to a phone service box.

The occupants of the townhouse at 2020 Overlook, William and Anita Ryan, were able to safely escape from the residence. Anita Ryan told township police that she was awakened by the sound of a fire alarm. She also said that someone came to their door to tell her they could see fire coming from the garage.

Grimm said that the fire was contained to the unit. He said that the townhomes have sprinklers and the ones on the first floor were activated. He said the unit had smoke and water damage. The units on each side of the townhouse also had some smoke damage. A vehicle inside the garage also was damaged by the fire.

Assisting were firefighters from Canonsburg and Peters Township along with the Washington Fire Department’s Rapid Intervention Team.

No injuries were reported.
