The need to donate blood is greater than ever. Due to many of the severe winter storms that have hit the Northeast, the American Red Cross was forced to cancel 170 blood drives in eight states, resulting in a shortfall of more than 7,100 units of blood and platelets. Now more than ever, donors are needed to ensure blood inventory is replenished.
Accordingly, the Red Cross has partnered with two groups to sponsor blood drives in Greene County next week.
The first one will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday in the West Greene High School gymnasium.
The second drive will be held from 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Guesman Room on the second floor at Southwest Regional Medical Center.
For more information, please call Pamela Pulkownik at 724-627-2412.
To schedule an appointment at either location, visit redcrossblood.org or call 1-800-RED-CROSS.
A single donation can save up to three lives.
Every two seconds, someone in this country needs blood. Blood products are needed by cancer patients, people with blood disorders, trauma victims, surgical patients and more. Southwest Regional Medical Center alone uses approximately 600 units of blood a year. By donating you could be saving a friend, a neighbor, a family member, even yourself. The donation process only takes about 45 minutes.
