Furniture on the move

I have been on a roll lately. Not like with dice, or with jokes, or with even with actual rolls. Instead, I have been on quite a streak of furniture moving. (As an aside, I just wrote “rolls” and then wrote “steak” instead of “streak,” so I must be hungry this morning.)
At any rate, I rearranged half of the rooms in my home in the past week. I began with my bedroom. My intentions upon going up there were truly only to clean, but by the time I had everything pulled away from the walls to properly sweep, dust and do baseboards, the project took on a life of its own.
Suddenly, the bed was on a different wall, side tables were moved, my rocking chair found a new corner in which to rock, and the room seemed more open somehow. I loved it.
The next day, I tore apart the living room. This room was a little bit harder, because we have several large pieces of furniture in there, but I had a vision. Part of that vision included a new couch, which I informed my husband about when he arrived home that evening. Not so much told him I wanted one, but that I bought one and he was going to help me haul it home the next day.
The old one was in bad shape for a good while, with the recliner hardware still jutting out the front even when the recliner was closed. He realized I was serious when he saw the old couch in question was in the front yard where it landed after I dragged it outside and flipped it over the porch railing. (I thought it was time, and that felt like a totally appropriate response.)
This weekend, I redid the dining room. My desk exchanged places with the blanket chest, the dining room table was turned and moved against a wall, and though the corner cupboard had to stay in its place, it was pulled out and the area behind it cleaner. Apparently, that is the one location in the house where, when the cats lose a toy, they can’t retrieve it. I guess this, because I found no less than eight little mice, springs and crinkle toys in the dust underneath it.
Again, the room is more open, which I love. It feels like it will be easier to keep clean, and that would be a change in itself!
My oldest daughter is the least excited for the changes to the house. She is in her first month away at college, and that is an overwhelming time already. But when she heard I changed some things – OK, a lot of things – at home, she said it felt like the whole world is changing.
I reassured her, while the world is indeed constantly changing, my love for her never will. Sadly, I can’t say the same about the arrangement of the craft room furniture.
