Federal Energy Regulatory Commission will hold a public meeting in Coal Center on the environmental impact statement prepared for a project by Equitrans LP to expand its natural gas transmission system in Greene and Washington counties.

FERC’s session at 5 p.m. Nov. 9 at California Area High School, 11 Trojan Way, is one of several scheduled.

The company’s Equitrans Expansion Project is designed to transport about 0.4 billion cubic feet of natural gas a day from production supply in the central Appalachian Basin, improve system reliability and flexibility and serve markets in the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic and Southwest through interconnects with various other interstate systems.

As part of its proposal, Equitrans plans to replace the existing 4,800-hp Pratt compressor station with a modern, 31,300-hp facility known as the Redhook compressor station in Greene County.

The proposed project also includes construction and operation of about eight miles of non-continuous pipeline and other minor facilities in Allegheny, Washington and Greene counties, as well as in Wetzel County, W.Va.

The pipeline construction includes two longer pipeline segments and four shorter segments.

One of the longer segments would extend about three miles east from the new Redhook station, which will be just north of the existing Pratt station in Greene County.

The other longer segment is a 4.2-mile segment extending east from an existing pipeline in Union Township, Washington County, into Forward Township, Allegheny County.

The environmental impact statement takes into account the analyzed data from the civil and environmental surveys that were conducted, as well as the comments, considerations and concerns of landowners, community members, government agencies and local elected officials.

The draft environmental impact statement is available for public viewing on FERC’s website. The commission also is accepting comments on the plan, which must be received before Dec. 22. The commission recommends comments be submitted electronically at www.ferc.gov.
