From Canada with love: U.S. is still pretty great
An editorial from the Wilkes-Barre Citizens’ Voice:
The closest contact most Pennsylvanians have with Canadians probably is when they zip by on interstate highways en route to points south. But there is great affinity between Canadians and Americans, especially since the vast majority of our 36 million or so northern neighbors live within 100 miles of the United States.
It is to the great credit of both populations that the 5,525-mile border, the longest in the world between two countries, also is the longest unguarded border on the planet. Canadians have not threatened to construct a wall along that border, even though many Americans across the political spectrum often have threatened to move to Canada pending the outcome of election.
Though they’re still not building a wall, some Canadians are worried about us. So they have launched an online campaign assuring Americans that, yes, the United States still is great. It includes reminders that we have, you know, the world’s greatest military and strongest economy, that we still lead the world in technological innovation and application, that most of the world still regards us as the beacon of liberty, and even that global pop culture has a distinctly American accent.
Perhaps it’s just a ruse to ensure that we all stay where we are Nov. 9. But thanks, Canada, nonetheless.
