Rush tops 4,000 yards as Maples win in overtime

Dylan Rush ran for 255 yards, became the fifth player from Greene County to rush for 4,000 career yards and scored the game-winning touchdown in overtime as Mapletown defeated Jefferson-Morgan 26-20 Friday night in the Tri-County South Conference.
Rush, who has 4,079 career yards, scored on Mapletown’s first play of overtime after Jefferson-Morgan (1-3, 1-6) turned the ball over on downs without scoring on its possession in the extra session.
Rush, who joins Mapletown’s Derek Bochna, Carmichaels’ Rocky Doman, Waynesburg’s Lanfer Simpson and West Greene’s Rodney Wilson as 4,000-yard rushers from Greene County, scored all four Mapletown touchdowns on runs of 50, 20, 10 and 10 yards.
Rush’s first 10-yard TD gave Mapletown (3-2, 4-3) a 20-12 lead in the third quarter, but Jefferson-Morgan put together an 18-play drive that culminated in a three-yard TD run by Colton Davidson with 1:16 left in the fourth quarter. A conversion run by the Rockets’ Joe Headlee, who had 128 yards on 32 carries, tied the score at 20-20. Headlee scored on runs of 17 and one yards.
Washington overcame a slow start by scoring 35 second-half points and pulling away for a 47-14 victory over Bentworth in a Century Conference game.
Washington (4-0, 6-0) remained a half-game behind conference leader Chartiers-Houston (5-0, 6-1). The Prexies will play C-H next week in Houston.
Bentworth (2-4, 3-4) started fast as Marquez Bentley returned the opening kickoff 75 yards for a touchdown and the Bearcats held a 14-12 lead at halftime. Ben Peternel’s one-yard touchdown run gave the Bearcats a 14-6 lead in the second quarter.
Wash High quarterback Connor Bedillion scored on a one-yard plunge and threw a six-yard TD pass to Jake Swartz, both in the third quarter as the Prexies scored the game’s final 41 points. Lyle Webb ran for three touchdowns, covering seven, six and four yards, and Ronnie Paith rambled 40 yards for a score.
Webb was the game’s leading rusher with 137 yards on 22 carries. Wash High ran for 247 yards on the muddy field. Bentworth was held to 94 yards total offense.
Washington’s final score came when Isaiah Walton scooped up a blocked punt and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown.
Ryhan Culberson touched the football only eight times for Fort Cherry but he accounted for four touchdowns, and Scott Miller had two long scores as the Rangers remained undefeated by rolling over visiting Avella 55-7 in the Tri-County South Conference.
Culberson caught a 60-yard touchdown pass from Brady Whalen, threw a scoring passes of 56 yards to Miller and added TD runs of 50 and 44 yards. Miller had a 53-yard touchdown run as Fort Cherry (4-0, 6-0) clinched a playoff berth and remained a half-game behind conference leader Carmichaels.
Matthew Staley had a one-yard scoring plunge, Zachary Vincenty opened the second-half scoring with a 35-yard jaunt and Austin Nardozi scored from three yards for the Rangers, who led 49-7 at halftime.
Avella (1-5, 1-6) scored on a four-yard run by Dalton Simonelli.
Marcus Czulewicz scored three touchdowns as McGuffey snapped a two-game losing streak with a 28-12 Interstate Conference win at Southmoreland.
Czulewicz scored on runs of 7 and 23 yards and finished with 134 yard rushing on 26 carries for the Highlanders (2-2, 4-3), who scored 28 unanswered points after falling behind 6-0.
Ronnie Robinson had 24 carries for 101 yards and two touchdowns for Southmoreland (1-3, 1-5).
Zach Pettit had 240 yards rushing and scored three touchdowns on 16 carries – including a 90-yard run in the fourth quarter to put the game away – as West Greene defeated Leechburg, 26-14, in a non-conference game.
Ben Jackson added a 68-yard fumble return for and Pioneers, who have now won two of their past three games to improve to 2-5 overall.
Cory Nulph had 20 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown to lead Leechburg (0-7).
George Martin completed 12 of 15 passes for 194 yards and two touchdowns as Ringgold cruised to a 36-7 Big Nine Conference win over Uniontown.
Martin threw TD passes Max Maciejewski and Tyrese Youngblood as the Rams improved to 3-2 both overall and in conference play.
Youngblood had nine carries for 102 yards and a touchdown, while Maciejewski had seven receptions for 135 yards. The Rams also got 10 tackles and a sack from Easton Fine.
Amadeus Marinucci scored a fourth quarter TD for Uniontown (0-4, 0-6).
Isaiah Mock had 147 yards and three touchdowns on 16 carries as South Park shut out Waynesburg, 27-0, in a Century Conference game.
Jodan Kmoak scored the other touchdown for South Park (2-2, 2-4), which had one touchdown in each quarter to steadily pull away from the Raiders (0-6, 0-6).
Zach Eisiminger had 78 yards on 16 carries, while Colin McCracken had 70 on 17 attempts for the Raiders.
Surron Adams had 10 carries for 114 yards and three touchdowns to lead Northgate to a 34-6 non-conference win over Monessen.
Adams scored on runs of 40, 6 and 43 yards for Northgate (4-1), which also got a TD run from Anthony Barbarino and an interception return for a score by Mike Allen.
Vaughn Taylor scored on a 20-yard run for the Greyhounds, who fell to 1-5 with the loss.
