Hispanic Americans jobless rate jumps in September
WASHINGTON – The unemployment rate for Hispanic and Latino Americans jumped to 6.4 percent in September, the highest level since November, the Department of Labor announced Friday. The rate was 5.6 percent in August.
At the same time, unemployment rates held steady for whites (4.4 percent), ticked up for black Americans (from 8.1 to 8.3) and fell for Asian Americans (from 4.2 to 3.9).
Americans without high school diplomas lost ground in the job market. Their unemployment rate rose to 8.5 percent, the highest level since May 2015.
The data for various demographic groups came from a survey of households that is part of the Labor Department’s monthly jobs report.
