MONESSEN – West Greene got a touchdown pass from Zach Pettit to Ben Jackson with 5 seconds remaining in the first half to start a run of 29 consecutive points as the Pioneers defeated Monessen, 29-20, Friday night in a Tri-County South high school football game.

The win, West Greene’s first over Monessen since 1993, lifted the Pioneers to 2-4 in conference play and 3-5 overall.

But it didn’t appear early it would happen.

Monessen (1-4, 1-7) got a 24-yard TD run by Zian Aldrich and two defensive scores on back-to-back drives in the second quarter from Jaron Youngblood on a 62-yard fumble return and 63-yard interception to grab a 20-0 lead.

But Jackson’s touchdown, his first of four in the game, helped stem the tide.

Jackson, who finished with 160 yard rushing on 15 carries, then scored on runs of 57 and 22 yards and caught a 36-yard TD pass from Pettit to help the Pioneers score the game’s final 29 points.
