Fayette County man arrested in 2015 overdose
A Uniontown man was charged Wednesday in connection with the overdose death of a 35-year-old Robinson Township man last year.
Myron M. Moore Jr., 31, of Woodview Terrace, faces charges in Washington County of drug delivery resulting in death, criminal use of a communication facility, two counts of possession of heroin and cocaine and a drug paraphernalia charge in connection with the Feb. 18, 2015, death of Justin Halyak at a home in Robinson Township. Authorities later ruled his death was caused by heroin.
Halyak’s girlfriend also was at the home when police arrived in the early morning and told McDonald police Halyak had been a heroin user but had gotten clean using the prescription drug Suboxone, according to an affidavit of probable cause supporting charges against Moore. The day before, she and Halyak allegedly had bought “raw” – or pure – heroin outside a convenience store in New Salem, Fayette County, from a man they didn’t know. Halyak overdosed after snorting and injecting the heroin later that day.
His girlfriend cooperated in a “buy-bust” operation at the store 10 days after Halyak’s death that allowed authorities to identify Moore, who reportedly began to shake and cry and allegedly told police he didn’t kill “that guy” when informed of Halyak’s death. Police said Moore provided a written statement in which he said he had been trying to do a favor for a woman he’d partied with. According to police, he went on to say he was “100 percent sorry if what I did hurt anybody in any way. I’m not this type of person.”
In a statement, District Attorney Gene Vittone credited the Fayette County District Attorney’s Office, Fayette County Drug Task Force, state police, the state attorney general’s office and Washington County Drug Task Force with assisting in the investigation.
Moore was in police custody Wednesday afternoon and awaited arraignment before District Judge Robert Redlinger.
Court records do not list an attorney for Moore.
