Top-seeded Clairton beats Avella
CLAIRTON – Noah Hamlin completed 6 of 9 passes for 193 yards and three touchdowns and also ran for two scores as top-seeded Clairton topped Avella, 50-6, in the opening round of the Class A playoffs Friday night.
Kijafi Fuqua had 134 yards rushing on 11 carries and a touchdown, while Tre’sean Howard and Devlin Clifford, had 96 and 93 yards receiving, respectively, for the Bears (10-0), who were playing without NCAA Division I recruit Lamont Wade. Wade had surgery to repair a mensiscus injury.
Clairton advances to next week’s quarterfinals to face Fort Cherry.
John Mull had 56 yards rushing on five carries for Avella (2-9), 50 of which came on a touchdown run in the second quarter. Mull also recorded a sack in the game.
