Waynesburg woman pleads guilty
WAYNESBURG – A Waynesburg woman charged with failing to register as a sex offender under the state’s Megan’s Law pleaded guilty Wednesday before Greene County Judge Lou Dayich and was sentenced to 18 to 60 months in jail.
Marcie Lynn Burroughs, 47, was charged by state police in April after she failed to make her required quarterly registration.
Police went to Burrough’s stated address at 1048 Rolling Meadows Road on both April 6 and 7 and could not find her. The landlord subsequently told them he had seen no one at the residence since February.
Burroughs was designated a sexual violent predator after pleading guilty in February 2008 to having sex with a 15-year-old girl. The crime stemmed from a July 2006 incident in her home.
Burroughs was sentenced to two to four years in prison for the offense. As a sexual violent predator, she is required to notify police of her address for the rest of her life.
Burroughs had a previous conviction involving sex with minors. In August 2005, she pleaded guilty to having sex with four boys on various occasions between March 2004 and February 2005. She was sentenced to 11 ½ to 23 ½ months on those charges.
Burroughs pleaded guilty Wednesday to one count each of failure to comply with the registration requirement of a sexual offender, a felony, and failure to comply with a her required counseling, a misdemeanor. Police said Burroughs had failed to show up for her required counseling sessions in both May 2015 and March 2016.
The jail sentence Burroughs received for failing to register was part of a plea agreement with prosecutors. Dayich also ordered Burroughs to perform 150 hours of community service. He imposed no fines, noting in his sentencing order Burrough’s poor financial circumstances.
