Man shot after stabbing five at Pittsburgh mental health facility
PITTSBURGH (AP) — Authorities say an armed man shot after stabbing five people at a mental health facility in western Pennsylvania will be charged with attempted homicide.
Allegheny County police said 38-year-old Dustin Johnson will also face charges of aggravated assault, attempted arson and risking a catastrophe following Friday afternoon’s attack at Turtle Creek Valley Mental Health/Mental Retardation in Homestead, just southeast of Pittsburgh.
Authorities said Johnson dropped his knife but not the gun and was shot because texts from inside indicated that bleeding victims needed help.
Authorities said one resident was listed in critical condition and another in stable condition. Three employees were in stable condition. Two other people were taken to hospitals but weren’t physically injured.
An employee said Johnson complained that a stay at the facility had “ruined” his life.
