What has happened to America?
What has happened to our political system?
Today, the worst choices for president in our history are upon us. Do we not vote? No. But which candidate do we choose? A crude blunderbuss with no political experience? Or a woman steeped in deceit, lies, poor decision-making and law-breaking, but with 30 years of political experience?
I am a lifelong Democrat. My dad, a steelworker and union officer, helped John F. Kennedy win the West Virginia primary in 1960 and also helped in that year’s general election. This was the first election in which I took part. But what has happened? Kennedy famously appealed in his inaugural address that we “ask not what your country can do for you. Ask what you can do for your country.” That should be a rallying cry again today. But, unfortunately, it is not.
This leaves me to vote Republican. Why? Because I’m afraid. I’m afraid for my children and grandchildren what a federal government led by Democrats might do with taxes, health insurance, national security, religious freedom, jobs and, of great importance, immigration.
I am voting Republican, not for or because of Trump, but because they have it right with regards to the real America that Kennedy envisioned. It is the right moral choice.
